Abstract: In Eastern Europe, during the twentieth century magic (spell, witchcraft, medicine) remains a reality as both existing practice or narrative tradition. This is why it has often been represented in literary texts. In this new context, the oral tradition becomes a literary writing being subjected to the intention of the author, and it undergoes specific transformations. This study tries to surprise the process of this transformation in the Romanian and Hungarian novel of the period between the two world wars. In this period the specific forms and fiels of literary writing are the Transylvanian minority literature, the literature of emigration, the urban literature, the literar sociography of the villages, each of those forms using another point of view in the representation of the tradition.
